Children lack the ability to have detailed psychological discussions about their problems. Yet children do communicate very elaborately using the language of play, and by other methods of creative expression. In therapy, the child and therapist interact with each other using these methods, and the therapist is able to use a wide variety of helping techniques through these activities.
Scott Sabath, LMFT, is highly skilled at using several types of activities to communicate with children in the course of therapy. These include Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Art Therapy, Clay work, Puppet work and other expressive techniques. In many cases, Family Therapy sessions which include the parents can also prove to be a valuable part of the therapy.
During these activities, Mr. Sabath uses many child-specific therapeutic techniques to help the child heal from painful experiences and develop new coping skills. The child usually achieves greater self-esteem and an improved capacity for self-control.
